Week Of 10/29/18 - 11/2/18
We had a very busy week in Room 33! In math, the students learned how to multiply decimals. We will continue working on this skill next week prior to the assessment on Friday. We have moved on to our water filtration unit in science. The students worked on identifying types of pollution. Next week they will work on designing and building a water filter. In ELA, the students worked on making predictions about a text. Students wrote their predictions on sticky notes and then expanded their thinking in their ELA journals by explaining why they made that prediction. We also finished reading "Wonder" and will be watching the movie today. If you haven't read or seen "Wonder" I highly recommend it...just make sure you have some tissues handy! In addition to learning, we participated in many fun activities throughout the week. Thank you to Mrs. Katzen and Mrs. Reid for coming into our class on Monday to make haunted houses with the kids. Everyone had a great time! On Wednesday, the students solved math and ELA clues to solve the mystery of who stole the candy from my desk. It was Mr. O'Donoghue! The students also participated in a Halloween STEM challenge in which they used styrofoam "ghosts" and toothpicks to build the tallest possible structure. Congratulations to Jacob, Gianna, Amanda, and Kyle for winning the challenge! Of course, we had the Halloween parade on Wednesday afternoon. As usual, everyone had fun dressing up and parading through the school! As you can tell, we had a very fun week! The students emptied their mailboxes earlier this week, so be sure to check your child's folder to see the work he or she brought home.
